When Apple released its first Macintosh computer in 1984, the pair thought to design a more functional and flexible solution which could take advantage of a graphical interface. The chips, easily switchable with the original ones, enjoyed remarkable success between the Drumulator users, selling 60,000 units overall. Five different upgrade chips were available, offering different alternate drum styles. They started selling the upgrade chips one year later under their new Digidrums label. The Drumulator was quite popular at that time, although it was limited to its built-in samples. In 1983, the two friends, sharing an interest in music and electronic and software engineering, decided to study the memory mapping of the newly released E-mu Drumulator drum machine to create EPROM sound replacement chips. Pro Tools was developed by UC Berkeley graduates Evan Brooks, who majored in electrical engineering and computer science, and Peter Gotcher. Later in 2022, Avid launched a free version: Pro Tools Intro. New users have to choose between three new plans: Pro Tools Artist, which costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year Pro Tools Studio, which costs $39.99 per month or $299 per year and Pro Tools Flex, which costs $99.99 per month or $999 per year. In 2022, Avid switched Pro Tools from a perpetual license to a subscription model. The software and the audio engine were adapted to 64-bit architecture from version 11. Current HDX hardware systems, HD Native and native systems use 32-bit floating-point resolution for plug-ins and 64-bit floating-point summing. The Pro Tools TDM mix engine, supported until 2011 with version 10, employed 24-bit fixed-point arithmetic for plug-in processing and 48-bit for mixing. It features time code, tempo maps, elastic audio, and automation supports mixing in surround sound, Dolby Atmos and VR sound using Ambisonics. Pro Tools has incorporated video editing capabilities, so users can import and manipulate high-definition video file formats such as XDCAM, MJPG-A, PhotoJPG, DV25, QuickTime, and more. The legacy SDII format was dropped with Pro Tools 10, although SDII conversion is still possible on macOS. It imports and exports MOV video files and ADM BWF files (audio files with Dolby Atmos metadata) it also imports MXF, ACID and REX files and the lossy formats MP3, AAC, M4A, and audio from video files ( MOV, MP4, M4V). Pro Tools supports mixed bit depths and audio formats in a session: BWF/ WAV (including WAVE Extensible, RF64 and BW64) and AIFF. 16-bit, 24-bit, and 32-bit float audio bit depths at sample rates up to 192 kHz are supported. Audio effects, virtual instruments, and hardware emulators-such as microphone preamps or guitar amplifiers-can be added, adjusted, and processed in real-time in a virtual mixer. Like all digital audio workstation software, Pro Tools can perform the functions of a multitrack tape recorder and a mixing console along with additional features that can only be performed in the digital domain, such as non-linear and non-destructive editing (most of audio handling is done without overwriting the source files), track compositing with multiple playlists, time compression and expansion, pitch shifting, and faster-than-real-time mixdown.Īudio, MIDI, and video tracks are graphically represented on a timeline. The DSP is used to provide additional processing power to the host computer for processing real-time effects, such as reverb, equalization, and compression and to obtain lower latency audio performance. Pro Tools operates both as standalone software and in conjunction with a range of external analog-to-digital converters and PCIe cards with on-board digital signal processors (DSP). It is used for music creation and production, sound for picture ( sound design, audio post-production and mixing) and, more generally, sound recording, editing, and mastering processes. Pro Tools is a digital audio workstation (DAW) developed and released by Avid Technology (formerly Digidesign) for Microsoft Windows and macOS. 'Tree ring pour' - The paints are all added into one cup and poured in slow circular motion in the middle of the puddle using a circular wrist movement. 'dirty cup' or 'Flip cup' - This is when the paints are all added into one cup then the cup is flipped and lifted. There are several methods of pouring that will give differing results. The term 'pour painting' is in reference to the paint being poured onto the canvas. I personally still like to use silicone in my paintings. In fact, a lot of pour painting artists swear against the use of silicone in their art. Silicone is a great additive that creates intense cells but it doesn't need to be used to achieve cells. If you decide to use silicone oil in your piece, please note before any protective topcoat is applied, the silicone HAS to be 100% removed, this can be a tedious process, I have never gotten 100% of the silicone off of any of my paintings partly due to the silicone soaking into the canvas itself, residual silicone keeps the topcoat or resin from sticking to the canvas, leaving a rough patchy appearance. Silicone - Silicone oil is used to create cells in pour painting. It extends the paint but will not thin it out. It keeps each of the colours separate, without it you would end up with a muddy mess of colour that would honestly look rather sad. Pouring medium - Pouring medium is a transparent acrylic paint additive that reduces 'colour crazing'. The water is used solely for diluting the paints, while the glue acts to replace the binding agent that you just diluted out of the paint if you were to just add water your paints you would end up too runny. Glue + water mix - This mix is something I swear by, it cuts cost and brings the paints to a pourable consistency. As stimulus payments could be deposited to digital wallets, and the economic uncertainty diminished public spending, there simply was more money left for people to invest. As opposed to Venmo, Cash App allows for buying, selling, and storing of Bitcoin.įurthermore, you can use Cash App to invest in (fractional) shares of publicly listed companies. So why did Cash App suddenly eclipse Venmo this significantly? One explanation could be that Cash App offers a broader range of features. The outperformance is supported by data from app analytics firm SensorTower, reporting approximately 40 million active users per month in May 2020, up from 24 million in December.Ĭash App by Square ( $SQ) now has 40 million users who have used the app over the trailing month.Ībout half the total of PayPal, but growing at 2x the rate, +96% y/y.Ĥx the y/y growth rate of Venmo, and already a larger user base. But this time Cash App built a big lead, much bigger than it ever had before, as can be seen below. A few weeks later, in late March-early April, Cash App and Venmo’s search interest peaked. As a result, physical commerce tanked and many people were losing their jobs. This was further facilitated by the US government enabling direct deposits of its stimulus payments to digital wallets such as Venmo and Cash App.īut which of the two competing apps has benefited the most in these trying times? Well, if we look at Google Trends search interest data, up until March the two companies were enjoying comparable popularity levels, beating each other out for the top spot every now and then.Īs the pandemic started to look more serious late February-early March, financial markets started to tank, and more and more state-wide stay-at-home orders were being declared. The reason behind this surge isn’t completely clear, but it’s presumably driven by the increased necessity to support friends and family who are affected by the economic fallout, by sending them money in an effortless and safe (not in-person) way. Payment apps like Cash App and Venmo have seen a surge in users and activity, according to app analytics firm Apptopia. While businesses have been hit by lockdowns and consumers have been forced to stay home, not only has commercial value transfer shifted to digital on a greater scale, but also peer-to-peer value transfer. Since the coronavirus pandemic hit in the United States earlier this year, a surprising trend has emerged. Just go with my general rule: "if it's from D&D Wiki, it's not allowed." If the first archetype is that bad (on top of the slightly overpowered general class features), then I'm not even going to read the other two archetypes. "You can keep making attacks until you hit as a bonus action" and "you can wield heavy bladed weapons in one hand as a light finessible weapon" are just so rediculous it's patentable. Maybe as 17th?Īrchetypes: oh my god that's ridiculous. I'm not very good at judging the higher level abilities, but being able to change the target of an evocation spell to you or cause it to go off before it reaches its target as a reaction seems a over the top. Adding additional magic damage to your weapon when it's charged seems a little powerful. (EDIT: Derro get advantage on all spell saves - that's where I've seen it.) Doesn't seem too bad, but probably want to ditch it in light of the other abilities being stronger. I feel like I've seen something like that somewhere. Gaining advantage on all magic saves if you cast a spell feels familiar. Increase damage but decrease number of targets. Blade Magic is a lot like the Magus in Pathfinder - you charge your weapon with the spell and the target of your weapon attack also gets the spell. Unsure about Extra Attack with that spell progression. I'd drop it down to ranger status.Ībilities don't seem too bad. Spells known is stronger than a ranger but weaker than a sorc. Same spell progression as a cleric similar armor proficiencies. |
